The Mitchel Troy Community Group Paths Group has just published six leaflets of walks in the Mitchel Troy area, with financial assistance from Monmouthshire County Council Community Environmental Grant Scheme and from Mitchel Troy Community Council.
Five of the leaflets describe circular walks, whilst the Introductory Leaflet gives an introduction to Mitchel Troy and St Michael’s Church, sets out the other walks in a chart, and gives a map of the little local paths that link different parts of Mitchel Troy Common. All of the circular walks except for the Lloysey Loop start from the Church Car Park in Mitchel Troy. The Lloysey Loop is the trim trail in Lloysey Woods, starting from the car park off the Monmouth - Trellech Road, and is the family fun and dog-friendly walk. The rest of the walks are not so suitable for dogs, because of the stock in the fields and the number of stiles. The longest walk is the Penallt Loop at just under 10 miles. This takes you up to the woods at Lydart, all the way through the woods, round to Penallt Old Church, down to The Inn at Penallt and back through fields to Caer Llan Woods and then on back down to Mitchel Troy. The rest of the walks from the Church are shorter, between 2 and 3.5 miles, with some steep slopes, inevitable around here, but with fabulous views to enjoy while taking a breather.
