MITCHEL TROY is a thriving village at the eastern edge of Monmouthshire. This website has been created to serve the village as an information source, discussion forum, noticeboard, pages for classified advertisements and the latest news from the History, Reading and Walking Groups. There will plenty of space for all to enjoy.

Come on Mitchel Troy! - submit items and articles of interest and to make this a vibrant and well informed source of interest for the whole village. We would particularly like to have photograhs to form a gallery. Send items to e-mail address

IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT SECURITY
from Val Long of Mitchel Troy Community Council

“Today (1 Feb) the neighbourhood police called in to warn us about recent rural burglaries - a 'professional' gang are working all over the county - mainly stealing land rovers, but they will take anything that can be sold on. They suggest that owners should immobilize all land rovers to prevent them being driven away.
There have been 3 burglaries on the Common in the last 2 weeks, sometime during the middle of the night. We all need to be vigilant about security and letting police know of any suspicious vehicles/people.
Don't forget you can report a non-emergency incident or suspicion on 101.”
Since this warning another burglary took place on Monday 1st February in Parc Pentre, they did not have a Land Rover so we all need to be very vigilant. Also a suspicious red IZUSU 4x4 with an empty car trailer was spotted coming up from Raglan way late evening, this has now been reported to the police.
Please pass this message on to anyone who may be interested. If you want to join our email network send an email to gill.pollock@talktalk.net.
We do communicate about a range of matters, such as the snow and flooding issues as well as social events. Keep informed and stay safe.

THE PATHS GROUP
The Mitchel Troy Community Group Paths Group has just published six leaflets of walks in the Mitchel Troy area, with financial assistance from Monmouthshire County Council Community Environmental Grant Scheme and from Mitchel Troy Community Council.  Hard copies of the leaflets will be distributed to Tourist Information Offices and the local camp-sites, pubs, guest-houses and self-catering accommodation, so that visitors can enjoy the beautiful countryside in our area while being encouraged to keep to the footpaths.  But local walkers can enjoy the walks too, by clicking through to the Paths Group page where there are links to each of the leaflets.  You are welcome to print them from there.

There will be two guided walks this spring and summer using walks described in the leaflets:

I will be leading a guided walk for Monmouthshire CC on the Penallt Loop on Saturday 7th May, starting at the Church car park at 10:30 with a stop for lunch at The Inn at Penallt.  If you want to have a sandwich lunch at The Inn, please book by emailing me at elainesavage236@btinternet.com so that I can give Andrew an idea of the numbers.

There will also be a guided walk on the Lydart Loop some time in June, taking in the history of Lydart and visiting Lydart Farm where Diana will be providing refreshments for thirsty walkers and giving guided tours of the ancient chapel in the farm to those interested in its history.  There will be a small charge to raise money for “Help for Heroes”.  I will be advertising the date and meeting time here and on posters nearer to the time.
